About Us
Alan began playing the piano aged 5 years under the tutelage of Cecil Cook.
Whilst Alan studied the 'standard' classical piano repertoire, Cecil's love was for stage shows, musicals and jazz and it was inevitable that Alan would also get a grounding in these genres. These styles also became his favourites.
At the age of 16, Alan was accepted into the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines and graduated from its School of Music on piano and trumpet. He served in senior staff bands until his return to Guernsey, his place of birth, where he took up a post in the finance industry.
Throughout this period Alan continued playing piano semi-professionally and also joined the Guernsey Concert Brass where he currently plays tuned percussion and cornet and undertakes the role of Deputy Musical Director.
Recently retired from full-time work, Alan is actively expanding his teaching role and now has the time to accept more pupils and playing engagements.
Alan would be extremely happy to talk to you about your musical requirements whether it be for a one-off party, a regular undertaking or maybe you would like to start to play an instrument yourself or know someone else who does.
